FORBIDDEN LOVE ON THE SHORES OF GREECE (2022)

Forbidden Love on the Shores of Greece was the second short film released by Phenascope Films. The film was written by the companies founder Joshua Bransgrove, in 2020. Bransgrove pitched the script to his long time collaborator Ly-Ann Foster, who joined the team as producer and helped get the project funded.

Once the project was greenlit, Bransgroves first task was to cast the film.

 

Three of the characters to appear in the film, were written with actors in mind, making the casting process a little less arduous than usual. The characters of Beth and Jed were to be played by Dorothea Jones and Mark Shorto, two actors Bransgrove was bringing with him from his debut release Organs of Business. Whereas the lead role of Katherine Dormer was to be played by the talented British icon Holly De Jong, best known for performances in Black Adder, Aliens and The Duchess of Duke Street. The casting of the co-lead of Cian, was the only open call the company held. After numerous self-tapes and auditions, The talented Robert Thompson was cast.

With the full cast now in place, Foster and Bransgrove set out hiring industry professionals to fill their crew, with the fantastic Faith Glenister heading up the camera team as the films Director of Photography. The film was shot on location in and around Bransgroves home county of Essex in the summer of 2021. It was shot over 4 days and was the companies largest project to date. With award winning performances and critically loved cinematography, the film is a somewhat surreal and quirky love letter to Bransgroves guilty habit of eavesdropping. The film currently stands as Bransgroves most prominent work and holds a loving spot in his directorial works.
